American Nut & Chocolate, Co. roasted its first batch of nuts on Tremont Street in Boston in 1927. The business primarily catered to retail street vendors as well as the wholesale vending trade. Back then, a nickel would be deposited into a glass-globed vending machine, providing customers a handful of fresh delicious nuts. These machines were found in many drug stores, supermarkets, restaurants, and barber shops throughout New England. The company also sold nuts using the name "Harvard Brand - the Educated Nut".
The business relocated to the corner of West Broadway and C street in South Boston in 1967. The business thrived, with a penny candy store in the front and roasting and manufacturing in the back. In addition the company began packing collectibles such as banners, cards, and buttons along with bubble gum and candy cigarettes. The banners of all of the Major League Baseball teams became collectors items along with Beatles pins and other memorabilia. To this day these are still sought out collectors items.
Unfortunately a flood led to the closing of the store, and a loss of machinery and memorabilia. Rochelle and Robert Novack were given the opportunity to purchase the company and in 2007 moved the business to Newmarket Square where American Nut & Chocolate currently resides. They arrived with a cash register, a sack of peanuts, and a great name, as well as experience in the food industry to build the business. They continue to provide only the highest quality products that American Nut & Chocolate is famous for.
We start with top quality nuts. We buy directly from growers around the world, making sure to seek out only the best. We individually inspect all nuts, then roast them by hand. Our nuts are roasted to order the old fashioned way - in small batches using 100% High Oleic Sunflower Oil. Small batch roasting methods create delicious and nutritious nuts at a level simply not possible with mass production techniques. We then use our skill and time-tested processes to bring out the best flavor from each ingredient so we can offer you the finest tasting products you will ever taste!
